Information we collect

When you create a Fathom Finch account, we collect your email address and the profile information you choose to provide (display name, bio, boating experience, vessel details, home waters). If you upload a photo, we store it and process it for content moderation. If you contact us, we keep what you send us.

How we use it

We use your information to operate your account, show your public profile and contributions to other boaters (only what you choose to make public), moderate submitted content, and improve the accuracy of the place information the platform serves. We use Google Analytics and PostHog to understand how the site is used; see their own privacy policies for how they handle that data.

What we share

We don't sell your personal information. Fields you mark public (display name, bio, vessels, home waters, community profiles) are visible to anyone visiting your public profile. Your email address, phone number, and favorites are never shown publicly.

Your choices

You can review and edit most of your profile information at any time from your account settings, including which fields are publicly visible. You can delete your account yourself, from your profile or at /account/delete.

Deleting your account

When you ask us to delete your account, we close it straight away: you're signed out everywhere and your public profile stops being visible. We permanently delete it 30 days later, so you have time to change your mind — sign back in before then and cancel.

When the 30 days are up we delete your email address and password, your profile, username and photo, your boats and their photos, your favourites and home waters, and your notification settings.

Reports and photos you contributed about Places stay on the platform, with your name, username and photo removed so they are no longer connected to you. Other boaters rely on that information, and removing it would take away the record of how a place was checked. Records of any moderation action taken on the account are also kept, without your personal details.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the platform evolves. We'll update the date above when we do.
